Search Engine Optimization is a technology to modify and optimize your webpage to make it friendly with search engine and make search engine easy in index your webpage and put your webpage in high rank in the search result page. There is a lot of terms in this technology and you should understand, at least common seo term, in order to optimize your webpage.
1. SEO: The first common seo terms you should understand is SEO. SEO is based on ‘Search Engine Optimization’, its the name of the technology you are looking for to optimize your website and make it better indexed and friendly with search engine.
2. Keyword / Keyword Phrase: Keyword or keyword phrase is the common seo terms. It indicate the word or a group of words that visitor use to search on the search engines. Then the search engine return a webpage contain list of websites that related to that keyword or keyword phrase. In SEO, keyword is an important part that webmaster must notice to optimize their website.
3. Backlinks: This is another common seo term, its is a primary subject in optimization your website. In basic, backlinks are links from another websites to one or many page in your websites. More backlinks you get, more rank you have in search engine.
4. Onpage SEO: Onpage SEO is a common seo term indicate the process of modify codes on your websites to make it rank better, such as modify page title, meta tags, header tags and other keyword or keyword phrase in your website
5. Offpage SEO: a common seo term including technique to make connections between other websites to your website, including make backlinks. Some common and important offpage including blog comment, forum post, social bookmarking and social media..
6. SERPs: a common seo term based on ‘Search Engine Results Page’. Its a webpage or a group of webpages returned from a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, to show the visitor a list of website based on the keyword they are searching.
7. Crawler/Bot: This is a special program from search engines. It read your website, parse it and put it to the database.
8. dofollow/nofollow links: a common seo term tell the search engine should follow or no follow that link when crawling your webpage. To specify the link is dofollow or now follow, you can add an attribute name ‘ref’ in your webpage.
9. Keyword density: a common seo term refers to the number of times that a keyword appear on a webpage compare with total words using in that page. The best rate of keyword density should be from 2% to 3% to make your website have highest rank in search engine.
10. Link farms: A common seo term indicate a group of websites that all link to each other. In the past, its a good way to get backlinks but now link farm is consider as spamming and it is not recommended in SEO. You website may be penalized if using link farms.
